It is still the same 112 x 62 x 14mm; however the buttons have been upgraded to touch screen buttons and the battery lid and joints have been smoothed to make it more user-friendly. An obvious change is the absence of the “physically moving” screen which has been replaced by an innovative button that displays your choice by using the advanced software technology.

The producers, RIM, kept the SurePress techniques of double-pressing a button to register your choice even though they did away with buttons. There is no change to the screen which remains a 3.25 inch size with 480 x 320 pixel resolution. Even though the changes are minor, the Storm 2 is obviously an improvement on the older model and brings the device on par with their competitors. Much thought was put into making it user-friendly and an ideal business partner for the individual who likes to be current and up-to-date with modern technology

From CNET editors’ review Blackberry Bold:

It’s been a good six months since Research in Motion first announced the RIM BlackBerry Bold (aka RIM BlackBerry 9000). Originally slated for a summer release on AT&T, the launch date kept getting pushed back…and back. Frustrated with the delays and wooed by other new smartphone releases, we moved on (and so did many of you) and nearly gave up on the Bold. However, now that we finally have it hand, the love affair has begun all over again.

The BlackBerry Bold delivers on a number of fronts. Its half-VGA display is one of the sharpest screens we’ve seen on a smartphone, which, combined with the stereo speakers, really boosts the multimedia experience. The Bold also ships with the latest BlackBerry operating system, new productivity applications, and support for HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. This is on top of all the great messaging capabilities. Of course, it’s not perfect. The smartphone isn’t the sleekest device on the block, and the Web browser could use more work. It’s also not going to have the mass appeal of an Apple iPhone 3G, nor would we recommend it to the general consumer. With its feature set and strong e-mailing capabilities, the BlackBerry Bold is very much a business-centric smartphone, but what is offers mobile professionals is a premium device that can handle work and play. The RIM BlackBerry Bold will be available November 4 for a slightly pricey $299.99 with a two-year contract and after rebates and discounts.

From Gizmodo about Blackberry Bold:

This is RIM’s best phone ever. Does that mean it’s the phone for you? If you’re a BlackBerry fanatic, yes—it really is the phone you’ve been waiting for, if you’re not hoping RIM radically changed the recipe. Because they didn’t. It’s cleaner and brighter, but it’s not an overhaul by any means. It’s a more powerful and beautiful distillation of the same experience.

For other people who were eyeing it as the time to switch to BlackBerry, the issue is less straightforward. As I said in the intro, it’s coming into a complicated world, where it has more consumer crossover appeal than a flagship RIM device—currently, the 8800—ever has before. (No doubt, even more people are looking at it in light of 3G problems on other handsets, either suit-and-ties who were considering the jump, or people looking for their first high-end smartphone, though more of the former.) At its heart, this thing is a corporate workhouse. It will play movies, music, browse the internet and all of the things consumers usually want—and do it well—but it is coming from a different mindset than the iPhone, something to keep in mind if you’re torn between these two phones.

Co-CEO of RIM, Mike Lazaridis is scheduled for today’s stage in Las Vegas at the CTIA show and all eyes focused on RIM’s answer to Apple App Store. While expressing his wish that RIM has held off on launching BlackBerry App Lazaridis world “to speak, nothing could have prevented the stroke of midnight announcement. So, ladies and germs, I present to you BlackBerry App world. S ‘ Please make sure you have a PayPal account, OS 4.2 or higher and a trackball or touch screen SurePress (aka Storm) BlackBerry before proceeding.

I must say that BAW is much better than the first screen that RIM has released many months. But before diving into it, you should download the BAW store. Can be found here and there from your BlackBerry and experience the awesomeness that is navigation BAW. A circle logo with the BlackBerry icon on your desktop.

The BAW Homescreen has four icons at the bottom and “articles”, which can be accessed by navigation on the left or right. The first – a folder with a blue tab – is to record your classes where you can search by genre, for applications such as games, music and video, or the staff of the health and well-being. Next to the icon of the category is the Top Downloads section – a folder identified by a star – which tells you of BAW applications that are very popular. You can also search for applications by clicking on the magnifying glass icon, for research in the categories.

The download process is simple and direct, but still hate the fact that RIM has not been able to launch a fund to pay its own structure. I do not trust PayPal, and I know that many people (besides myself) who have had problems with them over the years. In any case, click on any application that tickles your fancy you the following options: Download, comments or images. I do not think it was necessary to go into detail or describe what each of these entail, but I must tell you that when you purchase a free application you’ll be taken directly to my world (we do in a second), but if it is a paid application will be asked to log in to PayPal before proceeding.

Now that we have sought through requests to purchase a couple or download all the free applications, you’ll want to hit the icon in the outline of a person or my world. My world can not follow all the tabs on the applications you’ve downloaded, write articles, recommend or uninstall applications. A nice feature about My World is that it can accommodate almost applications you use can not be any time, without the application downloaded to the device. If you want to install an application previously deleted, you simply log into PayPal and go.

We will update this post once BAW is living with a complete list of applications that might not happen later today.

Well, okay. possibly RIM thinks this willpower type BlackBerry phones give the impression of being better next to Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone, which can play videos commencing the iTunes store. (And has numerous free or inferior cassette apps, such as CBS’s TV.com app or Major League Baseball’s At Bat app.)
But want anybody famine to pay for it?

charge determination be one factor. But mobile TV, whereas big on roughly other continents, is slightly flat-out unpopular in the U.S. definitely 2% of mobile subscribers in the U.S. spy on programmed itinerant TV on their phones, according to comScore M:Metrics.

And that’s not as it’s not available: various RIM phones can already entr?e MobiTV, a movable TV service, and carriers allow been marketing portable TV air force for years. (The difference: in its place of streaming the episodes in real-time, RIM’s assistance would download them to your phone, suggestive of you might watch them in the subway, for instance.)

One the makings problem: RIM’s wi-fi-only service valor not steady work on its would-be iPhone killer, the BlackBerry Storm — as RIM and Verizon Wireless determined to keep wi-fi off the device. If there’s any phone RIM must be building a mobile phone video consequence for, it’s the Storm — with a big, brilliant screen, and a as a rule consumer (non-enterprise) client base. But unless it’s really cheap and in fact awesome, we think this is a non-starter.

The victim of the this story is to put something through its paces how I maximized the tradition of a Blackberry Smartphone with one of the cheapest mobile call up campaign out there. For the sake of this article, the ideal phone to facilitate I worn for this foretell was the Blackberry Curve 8320 Smartphone. what time it comes to cellular phone (cell) phones I cannot see myself conversing for a 1000 action (16.66 hours) a month. That is two workdays to me or while with the purpose of I can allocate to other gear someplace I can see results. want do not get me wrong, a itinerant buzz is exact a lot needed in circumstances anywhere your business or source of revenue is needy on quick communications. The plan which I currently use is a “pay as you go” prepare (with T-Mobile). I give academic to prepare in my opinion by way of the usage; benefit I do not produce my number out or use it for lengthy conversation.

I assert always been fascinated through PDA’s, have owned somewhat a few, and was now looking for rather that would provide PDA capabilities, as fondly as, cell make a call capabilities. I did not choose to pay a lot or get trapped into a lengthy tune contract in the midst of a cellular phone phone donor barely to own a computer in my pocket. During a recent visit to the home shopping center I entered into my everyday doubt and answer assembly along with the sales rep at one of the T-Mobile kiosks. I state complete this in the times of yore at other locations in an effort to educate myself on the order of mobile phone phones. One of my main questions has been, “What phones want my T-Mobile “pay-as-you-go” SIM certificate succeed in?”. You would be surprised at the answers I carry out received. I contain always been told I would boast to foothold another telephone plan, if I sought a Blackberry, etc… at the end of the day I always effect dreadfully confused about itinerant phones. In this case, the sales rep proceeded to enlighten me with the purpose of my SIM card in my cheapie make a call would serve in any of the phones they had. The sales rep proceeded to TV show me several phones plus the Blackberry (all with minder outlay tags if I were to buy the phone plump out).

As my “gadget luck” would obtain it, I was preparing to have the result that and the sales rep proceeds to blab me so as to he had an worn Blackberry Curve 8320 for sale, minus the software for the phone. lengthy narrative short, I get what did you say? I deliberate is a good deal on this phone… I buy the mobile phone and in addition to my bargain basement priced “pay as you go” plan, I challenge for my part (as a project) to find workarounds to being paid facts to and on or after the Blackberry exclusive of the essential to purchase a elevated priced data plan.

Reflected below is highlights of how my project crooked out… a quantity of of the in turn alone may be advantageous to other Blackberry owners and in roughly cases, depending on the phone (and provider), may not work at all. a few of the in a row reflected may be regular information to itinerant mobile phone clout users and may make me appear as if I don’t state a clue roughly movable phones… water supply I don’t, but I am learning! All I can recount you is, so as to I took a cheap receiver intend (pay-as-you-go) and an expensive smartphone and customized it for my special needs.

SIM tag – SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) is the certificate located in your phone that is a module that identifies to the transportable phone provider, who you are. It can also perform as storage media for your contacts, etc… The module can frequently be distant and swapped to further phones (with the same provider). In my situation the SIM license worked in the midst of no evils and all my contacts were transferred to the Blackberry. I now undergo voice broadcasting by way of the Blackberry using my “pay as you go” plan.

Coverage – My receiver coverage improved noticeably. Locations everyplace I could not get service, I now include service. Proves to me that a number of portable phones are better in transmission and response than others.
Blackberry Desktop administrator Software – from the time when at hand was no software with the smartphone to manage the touchtone phone since my computer, I had to go discovery the software on the internet. I without difficulty located and downloaded the software on or after “Blackberry” and installed it on my PC . The Desktop executive Software is an integral piece that you want to house your telephone software up to date; AND to provide troop management, software management, and help capabilities. The installation was too bundled plus a Roxio package to control and move audio, videocassette and photo files. After erudition the Desktop administrator Software, I knew at with the purpose of position this was my gateway for installing third party software on Blackberry.

Calendar, Contact, and charge Management – In order to take detailed advantage of the calendar, contact and commission management portion of the phone, I wanted several mode of syncing capabilities. The Desktop director Software provides syncing capability to Microsoft Outlook and to Yahoo. I exclusively configured my Yahoo internet correspondence account to manage my contacts, calendar, clarification and everyday jobs on my Blackberry. When I hook up my Blackberry to my computer, run the Desktop director Software, it automatically syncs including my Yahoo account on the internet. This as well gives me the aptitude to attract up my in sequence beginning any PC connected to the internet.

Wi-Fi – The Blackberry Curve 8320 has wi-fi (wireless) capability. I configured the Blackberry to link to the wireless router in my home, which provided me by way of (at first) some degree of access to the internet. You hope against hope see underneath the workaround I utilized to increase full access.

Internet Browser – The browser on this detail ring was very, exceptionally imperfect (proprietary to T-Mobile) and did not provide complete internet door via my wireless access point. I at the outset did not think this was possible with no a records plan, but bearing in mind more or less careful thinking, I knew near had to be around way that I may perhaps bridge that gap. I downloaded and installed Opera-Mini which is browser software calculated for mobile phones. I now experience broad edit to the internet via my wireless router or at any wi-fi log on position that desire let me in. (Note: Opera-Mini is an amazing browser for this purpose).

MicroSD license (with PC Adapter) – RadioShack had an 8 gig MicroSD recollection certificate on sale ($20), which I installed hooked on the Blackberry… I now have storage capability; as well as once connecting the Blackberry to my CPU it is highly praised as a mass luggage compartment device. I can now hauling my files, portable apps, etc… This regard touchtone phone model has a camera (w/photo viewer), video camera (with video player) and utter recorder (w/audio player) built in. by means of the other storage space I lucratively converted a chock-a-block time-span motion picture to theatrical production on the Blackberry; added MP3 music files, photos, documents, etc…

Software – Now to I suffer academic to install software onto the Blackberry, I am currently exploring the internet for “freeware” software for the Blackberry. quite a few sources with the aim of I grasp located are:

Blackberry Freeware.com Blackberryfreaks.com Blackberry Freeware Directory

In closing, I have been rather satisfied amid the outcome of this job and the Blackberry Curve Smartphone. I welcome any commentary or suggestions.

It appears with the intention of investigate In Motion, the makers of BlackBerry smartphones, will take part in entirely a occupied calculate at CTIA this year. They’re already expected to get a few worthy of note announcements, but now it appears the long-awaited BlackBerry App World desire be launched at CTIA as well, on April 1.

The particulars for the pricing of apps in the BlackBerry App World contain been on hand for a few weeks now, but so far the site has merely had a leg-puller image up and a association to enroll for updates. On April 1 the copy will come miserable and we’ll be talented to see very soon what manner of apps developers declare been working on.
Apple proved with the purpose of app provisions can be an superb marketing tool for smartphone manufacturers. One of the biggest selling points for the iPhone is the varied functionality to be had through apps. Of course, third-party software for BlackBerry phones has been obtainable for fairly a number of period from sites reminiscent of CrackBerry and Handango. But BlackBerry App earth resolve convey a new source of revenue to RIM, and if the apps are trustworthy enough, could be fairly successful.

We’ll be at CTIA to allocate you updates, and we’ll save paw marks of the CTIA news bulletin on our tech rumor blog as the big day approaches.

The launch may show your face at CTIA but we’ve as well heard App globe self-control be announced and they may not want to take missing the spotlight.

The new service is rumored to feature:
* indefinite monthly subscription good turn for a fee
* time was a client orders a program, the satisfy self-control be downloaded in the background over Wi-Fi
* Multiple air and cable networks assert licensed satisfy for the tune

If the beyond comes true, I would be in fact interested to see what type of subject we can expect. Ideally, the rite would shock by submission the usual premium content with the purpose of can be existing for free such as Comedy Central and Comedy set of connections shows. Micro-payments can really aid this once-over too. If I may possibly pay $0.99 per episode of aimless or The Office, I would happily do so. Hopefully this check offers particular content that really makes it worthwhile.
